Several firms help TIM sell assets to UK telecoms business

Brazilian telecoms company TIM has hired Pinheiro Neto Advogados, Mundie Advogados and Palma Guedes Advogados to sell a controlling stake in its fibre optics subsidiary to London-headquartered infrastructure group IHS Towers for 1.6 billion reais (US$294 million).

Millicom makes single largest-ever foreign investment in Guatemala

Luxembourg-based telecoms and media group Millicom has hired Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York and Consortium Legal (Guatemala) to acquire the remaining stake in Tigo Guatemala for US$2.2 billion from its local partner, Miffin Associates Corp, marking the largest ever single foreign investment in the Central American country.

US fibre optic provider Transtelco buys Mexican assets

Texan broadband provider Transtelco has enlisted Paul Hastings LLP in New York, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York and Toronto and DLA Piper Gallástegui y Lozano in Mexico City to acquire Mexican telecommunications operator Maxcom and launch a tender offer to buy the target company’s outstanding notes.

Spanish telecoms giant Telefónica has hired Latham & Watkins LLP in Madrid and New York and Arias in San Salvador, Guatemala City and Managua to sell its operations in El Salvador to Jaguar Fund for US$144 million.

BTG Pactual and its affiliated telecoms company Globenet have hired Pinheiro Neto Advogados, while Warrington Investment enlisted Stocche Forbes, to co-invest 12.8 billion reais (US$2.4 billion) in V.Tal, the spinoff that holds Brazilian telecoms group Oi's fibre optic business.

Mexican telecommunications company América Móvil has enlisted three offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP and Cariola, Díez, Pérez-Cotapos in Santiago to enter into a joint venture agreement with Liberty Latin America to combine their respective Chilean operations, Claro Chile and VTR.
