Chile’s competition watchdog has opened a Phase II investigation into US content provider Turner’s proposed purchase of Chilean football broadcasting rights because of concerns the deal could harm competition in the country’s pay-TV market.
Chile’s antitrust enforcer has urged its specialist competition court to fine the country’s National Professional Football Association (ANFP) US$4.7 million, claiming that the entry fees it charges to teams promoted from its third tier to second division are anticompetitive.
