Southern Cross buys majority stake in Ultrapetrol

The New York office of Chadbourne & Parke LLP, Argentina’s Salaverri, Dellatorre, Burgio & Wetzler Malbrán Abogados, Brazilian firm Veirano Advogados and Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega in Panama have helped Argentine private equity fund Southern Cross buy a stake in Ultrapetrol (Bahamas), a marine industrial transportation company.

Colombia withdraws from ICJ after Nicaragua dispute

Colombia has withdrawn from a treaty recognising the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over what it claims is an unfair judgment in a maritime dispute with Nicaragua that saw the Central American nation gain three-quarters of the disputed territory – a move that Nicaragua’s counsel thinks could lead to more lawsuits against the Andean nation before its withdrawal takes effect.

LLX raises US$345 million to fund LatAm’s largest port

Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados has assisted port operator LLX Açú Operações Portuárias in a 750 million reais (US$345 million) debenture issue to develop the Açú super port – which will be the largest port enterprise in Latin America once up and running.

P&O secures CAF loan

The New York office of Clifford Chance LLP, Palacios, Prono y Talavera in Paraguay, Argentina’s Allende & Brea Abogados and Australian firm Middletons have helped P&O Maritime Holdings (Paraguay) secure a US$40 million senior secured loan facility from Latin American development bank Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) and the Paraguayan branch of Brazil’s Banco Itaú.
