Privatisation of the PCS Mobile Systems concession goes ahead

The privatisation of the PCS Systems was sucessfully concluded on May 8 with the awarding of the concession to Telecom Italia Mobile (STET) for US$180 million.

Gino Sangalli, general counsel for Banco Wiese Sudameris for eight years, joined the Banking and Finance Law Group at Rodrigo, Elías & Medrano Abogados as of May 2, 2000. Backus purchases majority stake in Cervesur

The Beer Group Backus (Unión de Cervecerías Backus & Johnston SA) purchased a majority stake in Compañía Cervecera del Sur del Perú SA, the second largest beer manufacturer in Peru and the only remaining independent one.

Government approves final version of concession contract for airport privatisation

On 7 March 2000 the Government informed each of the 8 pre-qualified bidders for the privatisation of Lima's Jorge Chávez International Airport that the final version of the concession contract has been approved and that the concession will be awarded.

Andean Community of Nations discusses trademarks, patents and industrial secrets

Representatives from Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia failed to reach any agreement in their meetings in January and February in Lima, but it is expected that the Andean Community will in any case increase the protection afforded to Industrial Property.
