Biography
Thais Garcia is a partner in the corporate/M&A practice of Clifford Chance in New York and a member of the firm's Latin America Group. Thais specialises in cross-border M&A, restructurings and joint ventures, with a particular focus on the Latin American market. She regularly represents corporates, private equity houses, pension funds, infrastructure funds and other investors in their investments and disposals in the region. Thais is recognised as a "Next Generation Partner" in The Legal 500 for corporate and M&A for Latin America (international firms), as an "Up and Coming" lawyer in Chambers Latin America: Corporate/M&A (Latin America-wide), and was included as a leading US lawyer with a focus on Mexico in The Legal 500's US-Mexico Private Practice Powerlist in 2019.
Her experience includes advising ISA on its acquisition of the Cartagena-Barranquilla highway (known as Concesión Costera) from a consortium including Colombian developers Mario Huertas Cotes (30%), Colpatria (30%), Castro Tcherassi (10%) and Costa Rican developer Meco (30%). The transaction represented the first acquisition ever under Colombia's 4G programme. She advised CDPQ on the acquisition of a strategic interest in SURA Asset Management; Actis on its acquisition of an 110MW El Pelicano Solar Plant in Chile from SunPower Corporation, and on the establishment of a Pan-Latin American renewable energy platform, Atlas Renewable Energy.
