Roberta Berliner Cherman is the firm’s resident partner in São Paulo.
She focuses on advising Brazilian and international corporate issuers and financial institutions in equity and debt securities transactions, including SEC-registered, institutional and private placement transactions, and in a wide range of corporate governance, finance, regulatory and other matters. In 2020, Roberta advised on one of the three largest-ever IPOs in Brazil (Rede D’Or), the first equity offering in Brazil after the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic (Estapar), various liability management transactions for Petrobras, among other major capital markets transactions.
Roberta first joined Shearman & Sterling as an associate in the Capital Markets practice in New York. Before rejoining the firm in 2017, she was the head of the legal department at Itaú BBA International, in Lisbon and London, and head of the trade finance, structured products and funding team at Itaú Unibanco’s legal department.
