Renata Campetti Amaral joined the firm in 2002 and became a partner in 2013. She is the head of the firm’s environmental and consumer law group in Brazil, and is a member of Baker & McKenzie’s global climate change group. She was chosen by Client Choice as Brazil’s environmental law representative, and for the past several years has been recognised as one of Brazil’s most admired environmental lawyers by Chambers, LACCA, Latin Lawyer, The Legal 500, and Análise Advocacia. Renata leads some of the largest environmental contamination and regularisation cases in Brazil. She has extensive experience in managing environmental crises and negotiating with authorities. She holds an LLM degree from the University of Texas - Austin and is a lecturer and professor of postgraduate courses in environmental law, including at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
Her practice embraces issues related to environment, consumer protection, social responsibility and climate change. In the environmental area, she works in environmental auditing and due diligences; environmental self-disclosure and consent agreements; negotiation and implementation of environmental remediation plans; Change; environmental class actions; environmental licensing and administrative defences; financing for the environment; corporate social responsibility and social audit; legal aspects of biodiversity protection; judicial and administrative litigation and alternative dispute resolutions; environmental crisis management; development of policies and preventive strategies; negotiation of Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements and social corporate audits. Mrs Amaral works as a legal adviser on environmental counseling for companies of the oil and gas, metallurgy and chemical sectors, among others. She leads several of the major environmental cases in Brazil.
