Biography
Juan Manuel, lawyer, mainly works in the tax department and the corporate and banking department.
He is professor of tax law (Grade V) and of financial law at Facultad de Derecho, Universidad de la República. He is director of the Tax Law Journal of the Instituto Uruguayo de Estudios Tributarios. He was President of the Uruguayan Instituto Uruguayo de Estudios Tributarios (2007–2009) and he is currently director. He is secretary and member of the board of directors of the Instituto Latinoamericano de Derecho Tributario. He is also director of the Instituto de Finanzas Públicas de la Facultad de Derecho (UDELAR). He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA). His experience in taxation, agreements related to the public sector and financing transactions have led him to participate in an advisory capacity in the most important governmental tenders. He has further engaged in rendering tax advice in public and private bond offerings in relation to the public sector, financial and investment structuring, public law advisory services, trusts, advice to pension and investment funds, bank transactions in general and corporate restructuring and acquisitions.
Recognised among prestigious international legal publications such as Chambers and Partners, PLC Which Lawyer, Latin Lawyer, Who’s Who Legal for his outstanding performance in tax matters. He has been acknowledged as LACCA Approved 2022.
He has also been recognised by the prestigious international publication International Tax Review – Euromoney as well as America’s Tax Practice Leader of the Year.
