Biography
José Ignacio is a partner in the international arbitration group and focuses on commercial and investor-state international arbitration matters in LatAm. He advises sponsors, EPC contractors and governments on international disputes in the construction, energy and infrastructure, and oil and gas sectors. He is experienced advising on ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICDR and ad hoc arbitrations.
He received a favoirable outcome as counsel to Enel Fortuna in an ICSID case over the delay in the construction of an electricity line; acted for a construction consortium in an ICC arbitration seated in NY related to the construction of a gas pipeline in South America, and acted for a Spanish company in a dispute related to the construction of a bioethanol power plant. He has managed arbitration disputes in the US, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
He is admitted to practise as an attorney in Spain and New York and as a special legal consultant in Washington, DC.
