Jose has extensive experience advising foreign financial institutions in structured finance deals, sovereign bond offerings in international capital markets, cross-border transactions and its tax implications and mergers and acquisitions.
He has also acted as director to insurance and surety companies and has been retained by insurance companies and reinsurance syndicates to advise on complex claims involving agreements governed by Guatemalan or foreign laws.
José is a designee arbitrator for the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and actively participates, pro-bono, in institutions that work for the transparency of the Guatemalan system of justice.
He leads the compliance department at the firm, actively advising corporations in implementing effective compliance and governance programmes.
José teaches commercial contracts and financial law at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Guatemala, counts with a JD from Universidad Landívar and a master's degree in finance from the University of Rochester.
