Biography
Jon Zonis is co-head of the Americas capital markets practice and of the Latin America Group of Clifford Chance. He represents issuers and underwriters in cross-border debt and equity offerings, including IPOs, high-yield debt offerings, SEC-registered offerings, Rule 144A and Regulation S private placements, debt restructurings and tender offers.
Jon is involved in the ongoing representation of Eletrobras, Banco Safra and AES Panama in connection with securities offerings, and has assisted on numerous project bond offerings in the transportation sector across the region. His experience includes advising on over US$17 billion of international bond offerings for Ecuador since 2014; CAF – Development Bank of Latin America's recent US$750 million bond issuance; the first 30-year bond issuance in the Brazilian pulp and paper industry; BBVA Bancomer's US$1 billion subordinated Tier 2 debt offering, and Multibank Inc's first issuance of senior notes. Jon advised the ad hoc YPF bondholder group in the YPF bond exchange in 2021, advised the Argentina Creditor Committee (ACC) in Argentina’s US$65 billion international debt restructuring, and Goldman Sachs as the underwriter in Ecuador's US$400 million issuance of sovereign social bonds, the first country to do so.
