Hermano Barbosa is a partner in the tax practice area. He has extensive experience in his field, advising clients in M&A transactions, corporate reorganizations, financings, transactions on the debt and equity markets, foreign investment in Brazil and Brazilian investment abroad, interpretation and application of international treaties, taxation of digital businesses and new technologies, advice to private clients in legal and tax aspects of wealth management and succession planning. He also represents clients in administrative and judicial tax litigation.
Hermano has active academic activities, as a lecturer on tax law in undergraduate and specialisation courses (Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). He has also lectured in courses organised by the Brazilian Securities Commission (Comissão de Valores Mobiliários, CVM) and the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro's Public Accounts Review Board (Tribunal de Contas do Municipalidade do Rio de Janeiro). He is the author of the book O poder de não tributar: benefícios fiscais na Constituição (São Paulo, 2012), co-author of the books L’autonomie financière territorial (Paris, 2014) and “Direito Tributário e Políticas Públicas (São Paulo, 2008) and frequently publishes articles on legal subjects of his practice in specialist law reviews.
Hermano Barbosa is a director of the Brazilian Association of Financial Law, the Brazilian branch of the International Fiscal Association, chairman of the tax committee of Brazil-France Chamber of Commerce (Rio de Janeiro), and is enrolled with the Bars of Rio Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Brasília.
