Guzmán has been recently promoted to partner. He has extensive experience in corporate law and finance with a particular focus in M&A. Guzmán, has been in the frontline of the most significant investments and transactions in the Uruguayan market in recent times, including acting as counsel to Goldman Sachs in its acquisition of retail chain Tienda Inglesa, acting as counsel to Coca-Cola FEMSA in its acquisition of Montevideo Refrescos SRL (indirect subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company) and acting as counsel to Overactive as seller. The Overactive transaction in 2021 is believed to be the largest M&A involving a Uruguayan company so far and one of the largest technology acquisitions in Uruguay’s history.
Guzmán co-leads the teams in charge of the day-to-day legal work of household names such as Goldman Sachs, Banco Itaú and Coca-Cola FEMSA. He is also frequently instructed to intervene in complex corporate matters.
A graduate of Harvard Law School (LLM), Guzman’s international experience includes working in the New York offices of Linklaters LLP. Guzman is the Harvard Alumni Contact in Uruguay and a member of the Latin America Regional Council of World Services Group.
He has won several first prizes for his books and articles, including the Adolfo Gelsi Bidart civil procedure law prize. In 2022, he launched his recent book, Share Purchase Agreements.
Guzmán has been distinguished as a LACCA Approved 2022 for corporate and M&A.
