Biography

Deborah Zandstra leads the firm’s sovereign debt restructuring and advisory practice and has been at the heart of many of the policy innovations of the past few years in the sovereign debt space. Her clients include sovereigns, major international commercial and investment banks, industry bodies and insurance companies. In addition to advising on sovereign debt management, Deborah’s practice includes advising on liability management, debt issuance, loans, derivatives and debt conversion techniques relating to sovereigns, sub-sovereigns and central banks, as well as advising on secured and structured financing transactions. She regularly leads educational seminars on sovereign and financial stability-related issues and participates in roundtables (Bank of England, UN DESA, IMF, EMTA, IDB, Commonwealth Secretariat, ICMA, IIF, Paris Club/private sector meetings, City Week, Thomson Reuters).

Deborah advised the ad hoc YPF bondholder group in the YPF bond exchange in 2021, advised the Argentina Creditor Committee (ACC) in Argentina’s US$65 billion international debt restructuring, and Goldman Sachs as the underwriter in Ecuador's US$400 million issuance of sovereign social bonds, the first country to do so. She is a native Spanish speaker and has particular experience in the Ecuadorian and Argentine markets.
