Biography

Carolina is a transactional attorney with over 17 years of experience, 13 of which involved handling legal structuring, drafting, negotiation and closing of local and international financings and projects as senior associate at an Ibero-American law firm in Colombia and partner of Baker McKenzie.

Before joining Baker McKenzie as local partner of Banking and Finance, Carolina founded a Medellin-based law firm. She was a professor at EAFIT University and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, senior associate of an Ibero-American law firm, legal director at a Colombian branch of a Brazilian financial company and an in-house counsel for Colombian financial institutions.

Carolina is an expert in financial transactions with emphasis on project financing. In the exercise of her profession, she has advised clients in different sectors, facing a great diversity of situations, interests and concerns. Her extraordinary performance in the most complex transactions recently performed in Colombia has positioned her as one of the most well-known and specialist lawyers in the country.

Although before joining Baker McKenzie, Carolina had focused on advising lenders in project financing, particularly those related to fourth-generation road concessions, most recently, she has mainly advised borrowers and sponsors. Carolina has also advised corporations, trade companies, debt funds and government entities in all types of lending transactions, including trade finance, structured finance and corporate finance. She also has deep knowledge of road financing structures through the issuance of bonds in the international market + senior credits as she co-lead the structuring of the three financings performed by Colombia under this modality and lead the last one from Baker McKenzie that also involved a multi-tranche loans in different currencies/indexes. Carolina is expanding the scope of her work towards sustainable finance.
