Biography
Carlos Loaiza Keel graduated as JD from the University of Montevideo, Uruguay, in 2003 (summa cum laude), obtaining an LLM in taxation in 2007 (Centro de Estudios Garrigues) and in corporate law in 2009 (Harvard Law School in collaboration with Centro de Estudios Garrigues).
He started his career in PwC, before joining the international taxation and transfer pricing departments of Garrigues in Spain in 2006. Back in Latin America, he joined Barros & Errázuriz in Chile in 2009 and in 2012 was appointed as partner of Sanguinetti & Asociados in Uruguay. In 2014 he worked in the Latin American practice of Proskauer and Rose LLP in New York. During his career, he developed a solid international practice, being involved in some of the most relevant deals in Latin America, including Latin Lawyer Deal of the Year 2011 (Grupo Sura Bags ING assets, US$3.8 billion).
Carlos Loaiza Keel heads the postgraduate in international taxation department of the University of Montevideo and is chief editor of Consultor Tributario, a specialist tax supplement sponsored by Thomson Reuters.
