Alfredo is a partner at Consortium Legal – Guatemala. He has 38 years of professional experience in the sectors of food and beverages, financial services, real estate, pharmaceutical, aviation, manufacturing and start-ups. His experience includes advising companies in tax and corporate matters, merger and acquisitions, private equity investments, financial transactions and project financing, foreign investments in Guatemala and Guatemalan investments abroad. He is also an advisor to individuals and family groups on inheritance planning. Likewise, he has extensive practice in corporate law and leads the real estate and entrepreneurship practice.
During his career, he has been a university professor in tax matters, both at the undergraduate level as well as at the master’s and specialisation level at the Francisco Marroquín University. For 25 years, he taught at the bachelor’s level and he continues to teach tax law at the master’s and specialisation levels. He is currently president of the International Fiscal Association (Guatemala) and belongs to several local and international tax associations. He has acted as legal advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala (2004–2006); main legal adviser for Guatemala on free trade agreements for the legal review of CAFTA between the Dominican Republic, Central America and the United States (2004); and personal legal advisor of the Minister of Economy of Guatemala during FTA negotiations between Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Mexico (2000–2001).
