Locations: Cancún, Mexico City
Analysis: Sainz Abogados is one of the youngest firms in this chapter, but despite its relative short time in the market, it has amassed an impressive reputation. It was launched in 2021 by a team of lawyers led by Alejandro Sainz, following Cervantes Sainz Abogados’ split into two firms. Since its founding, it certainly has not rested on its laurels, it opened an office in Cancún in June 2022, thus expanding the firm's physical presence beyond Mexico City. Sainz Abogados is certainly best known for its restructuring prowess. The firm, however, also counts a range of other practices, covering regulatory, transactional and disputes matters, as well as antitrust, M&A and labour law. The 2022 hire of Hugo López Coll from Greenberg Traurig SC also adds compliance and investigations capabilities to this firm. Recently, the firm helped flag carrier airline Aeroméxico get a US$4.3 billion capital increase as part of its Chapter 11 restructuring process. Delta Airlines, TV Azteca, Mexican paper company Bio Pappel and the real estate arm of asset manager PGIM are representative clients.
