Work areas

This firm is highly recommended for services in the following work areas.

Prieto’s transactional and non-transactional offerings are excellent in equal measure, and the firm’s willingness to adapt to stay ahead of trends helps it stand out from some of its close competitors. It takes pride in having a young but highly skilled cohort of lawyers who put their clients’ needs first.

Prieto’s core areas are corporate and M&A, energy, antitrust, tax and labour, but the firm has leading lawyers in plenty of other areas too. From their work on Chile’s largest-ever IPO and ground-breaking social and green bond issuances, Prieto’s transactional teams maintain an impressive track record. The firm offers finely-tuned practices that compete with highly specialised boutique firms. It tends to attract family groups and Chilean economic groups, as well as state companies, that often remain long-term clients across a range of practice areas.

A partner promotion in its projects and infrastructure group in 2020 reflected an increase in client demand for these services. Clients simultaneously took advantage of the firm’s strong antitrust, banking and finance and energy groups too to complement their project needs, with all these areas seeing an increase in work across the last 12 months. In 2020 the firm also hired a former National Economic Prosecutor’s Office lawyer to boost its antitrust team.

The firm’s data protection practice – which few Chilean competitors have carved out as prominently as has Prieto– helps it stand out from the crowd and places it in good stead for when Chile passes its long-awaited data protection law.  The firm also places a lot of attention on protecting its data and that of its clients: its data security system benefits from the same software employed by the US Department of State.

The partnership continues to focus on lawyers’ career development. Associates are placed into small teams that spend six months working in different practice areas. The objective is to give them a holistic understanding of Chile’s legal system while pinpointing their strengths and interests.

Clients rush to praise lawyers at Prieto, with one client saying: “They are reliable, professional and always available.” Another says, “Lawyers are always so clear in their communications to us. They put complex matters in simple, professional terms – it’s the perfect mix.”
