In 2022, the firm rebranded to Mello Torres following the departure of former name partner Luis Souza. At just five years old it is one of the youngest firms in this chapter. However, this does not stop the fledgling outfit from attracting work on some of Brazil’s most important and relevant cases.
Carlos José Rolim de Mello left Machado Meyer Advogados to launch this firm and has since gathered a team of talented lawyers with international experience to work on deals in a bespoke fashion, handcrafting their service to each client’s requirements in a way bigger firms find difficult to do. Joined by Clovis Torres, who has a solid track record as an in-house counsel at mining giant Vale, the firm has gone from strength to strength since it opened its doors.
The firm has risen in prominence far faster than normal. The market can often take time to recognise a new player, but this has not been the case here. The experience and sophistication that run through the team are undeniable, and its already robust track record of transactions is a testament to this strength.
Multinationals, including infrastructure group IHS Towers, as well as Brazilian players like Groupe Casino and XP Investimentos are just some of the firm’s recent clients.
Clients are keen to celebrate the success of this young firm. One client remarks that “despite being a newly-founded firm", Mello Torres "provides accurate advice on difficult insurance and banking problems and handles all technical negotiations on behalf of the client.” The lawyers’ expertise and responsiveness are applauded too.
