Bhering Advogados is an independent law firm founded in 1978, in Rio de Janeiro, specialising in intellectual property and related matters, including trademarks, patents, industrial design, copyright and neighbouring rights, information technology law, enforcement against counterfeiting and unfair competition, licensing, transfer of technology and IP litigation.
Our firm renders a complete range of services within the field of intellectual property, ranging from prosecution and portfolio management of trademarks, patents and industrial designs, which comprises contentious work at the BPTO, on through complex legal opinions involving copyright and software, transfer of technology and licensing agreements, enforcement against counterfeit and piracy, and IP litigation.
It represents domestic companies and foreign multinational corporations, particularly companies based in the USA, Europe and Asia and their Brazilian subsidiaries, belonging to various industrial sectors, such as automotive, chemical, biotech, aviation, engineering, pharmaceutical, sports, entertainment, telecommunications, software, fashion, among others.
Our branch offices
We are among the very few IP specialist law firms with branch offices in Brazil, resulting in optimisation and cost advantage to our clients. Our main office is located in Rio de Janeiro, close to the INPI national headquarters, and our branch offices are in São Paulo (a major financial and industrial region) and in Curitiba (southern region with heavy concentration of large companies and industries in general).
With branch offices in the cities of São Paulo and Curitiba, in addition to our main office in Rio de Janeiro, Bhering Advogados has a strong presence in the main Brazilian industrial regions.
Foreign desk
Bhering Advogados is the only Brazilian IP Law firm with a foreign desk recognised by international publications. Assistance is provided in client’s native language and the professionals are familiar with the foreign jurisdiction. The firm’s German Desk was set up at the end of 2010. Our German Desk has grown remarkably since then. To this date it has been recognised yearly by Chambers and Partners Global since 2014.
Foreign academic background
The firm encourages and finances the education and training of our professionals abroad. A number of our members hold postgraduate, master or PhD level degrees from the US, Europe or Asia. This contributes to our broad knowledge of international laws and treaties. This foreign experience also enables our members to understand the international scenario, the globalisation of the economy and the different business cultures and demands of our clients.

The annual participation of our professionals in international congresses also contributes to our technical development and to keeping us up to date with international law and practice.
