Biography

Mr Gerbaud joined Alemán, Cordero, Galindo & Lee as an associate in 1990 and became partner in 1992. Currently, Mr Gerbaud is the managing partner of the firm and head of the banking and finance, capital markets, and mergers & acquisitions departments.

Mr Gerbaud has represented many leading local and international financial institutions including Citibank NA, The Bank of Nova Scotia, Banco General SA, HSBC, BBVA and Banco Santander SA, among others. Mr Gerbaud has participated in some of the largest and most complex financial transactions that have taken place in Panama. Moreover, Mr Gerbaud was part of the High Level Presidential Commission for the Modernisation for the Capital Markets Commission and he was one of the drafters of the Panama Securities Act.

Mr Gerbaud served as director of the Superintendency of Banks of Panama from 2003–2019. Currently, Mr Gerbaud serves as a member of the board and president of Latinex Holdings Inc, as a member of the board and president of the Bolsa Latinoamericana de Valores, S.A. (Latinamerican Stock Exchange, Inc.) and as a member of the board and president of the Central Latinoamericana de Valores S.A. (Latinamerican Clearing and Settlement, Inc.).

Mr Gerbaud has been recognised by the prestigious legal publications Chambers and Partners, the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), and The Legal 500 as leading lawyer in Panama in the areas of banking and finance, capital markets and corporate M&A.  

Mr Gerbaud has a master’s in law (LLM) from Duke University and a bachelor of law and political sciences from Universidad Santa María La Antigua. He is currently a member of the Panama Bar Association. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
