Cabanellas, Etchebarne & Kelly advises Harris Canada Inc in US$30 million international financing deal

Cabanellas, Etchebarne & Kelly has advised Harris Canada Inc in a master loan agreement of up to US$30 million granted to Impsat SA of Argentina. The deal forms part of an international transaction in which four other Impsat subsidiaries acted as co-borrowers. These included Impsat Brazil, Impsat Colombia, Impsatel Del Ecuador, and Impsat Venezuela. The deal was closed on June 15th.

Demarest e Almeida advises Hyatt Group in São Paulo project

Brazilian firm Demarest e Almeida Advogados has recently counselled Morumby Hotéis Ltda, an affiliate of the Hyatt Group, in connection with a US$61-million project finance arrangement extended by Overseas Private Investment Corporation. The deal involves the construction and operation of a de luxe international business hotel and complex in São Paulo, to be called the Grand Hyatt São Paulo.

Lease finance for power plants in Brazil

Winston & Strawn was involved in closing major synthetic lease financings for Westdeutsche Landesbank for the EletroBolt (Enron) and Macae (El Paso) thermal power plants in Brazil, which together represented over US$1 billion in financing. Enron and El Paso Energy were the borrowers.

Avila & Vidal helps Colombians win BOOT bid

Avila & Vidal Abogados advised and represented Interconexión Eléctrica SA ESP (ISA) of Medellín, Colombia in an international public bid for a US$55-million BOOT contract for the design, operation and maintenance of a high-tension electricity transmission line in Peru. ISA beat off Red Eléctrica de España and Hydro Quebec to win the contract. The agreement was signed on April 30.

On the 22nd May a project financing transaction was closed in Brazil, by Polibrasil Resinas SA, a company jointly owned (indirectly) by Companhia Suzano de Papel e Celulose and Basell (a BASF and Shell company).
