Belo Monte obtains BNDES funding for new transmission line

Stocche Forbes Advogados has helped the Belo Monte energy consortium obtain a 2.56 billion reais (US$800 million) financing package from Brazilian development bank BNDES, which it will use to construct the first of two transmission lines from the Xingu river in the Amazon basin to the southeast of Brazil.

BNDES relied on in-house counsel and state-owned bank Caixa Econômica Federal, which acted as a lending agent and disbursed a portion of the funds, hired BMA - Barbosa, Müssnich, Aragão. The transaction closed on 17 April.
