Founding partner at QIL+4 Abogados. He has extensive local and international experience in compliance, banking and finance, mergers & acquisitions, commercial litigation and arbitration, tax strategy, insurance, reinsurance and securities law.
He has advised foreign financial institutions in structured finance deals, bond offerings in international capital markets, cross-border transactions, tax implications, mergers and acquisitions and complex project finance deals involving local and foreign banks and financial institutions and borrowers.
Jose’s advisory work includes corporate strategy and crisis management. He has acted as Director to financial institutions, insurance and surety companies and has been retained by insurance companies and reinsurance syndicates to advice on complex claims and reinsurance disputes involving agreements or dealings governed by local or foreign laws.
He is head of the firm’s compliance practice, actively advising corporations in implementing effective compliance and governance programmes, and leading the team of experts that provide assessment, consulting and training.
Jose has participated in ISO committees on anti-bribery, sustainable procurement, compliance and governance and leads a non-profit organisation’s anticorruption section.
He has a JD from Universidad Landívar and master's degree in finance from the University of Rochester.
José is member of the Guatemalan Bar Association, IBA, International Fiscal Association.
