Marcello Hallake focuses his practice on representing US, European and Asian companies, financial institutions, and investment funds in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, privatisations, private equity, and other financing transactions, particularly in the area of projects, in Latin America and around the globe as well as representing Brazilian and Latin American companies in cross-border transactions. He also has extensive transactional experience in advising companies in the energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, media and technology sectors.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Marcello represented France Telecom in various transactions in Latin America, including the acquisition and subsequent divestiture of its investment in Intelig Telecomunicações Ltda of Brazil; the acquisition and subsequent divestiture of Compania de Telecomunicaciones de El Salvador SA de CV; and the sale of Telecom Argentina. He also represented Petrobras in cross-border mergers and acquisitions transactions in the US, Asia and Latin America. Other clients that Marcello has counseled on cross-border matters include Banco Votorantim, Eutelsat, Globo Comunicações e Participações, Grupo Algar, JBS, Lagardere, Sinochem and Total.
Marcello is a member of the board of several not-for-profit organisations, including Brazil Foundation (which he co-founded), CDI International, AlfaSol, São Paulo's Museum of Image and Sound (MIS) and Paço das Artes Organização Social de Cultura. He is a former chair of the Committee on Inter-American Affairs of the New York City Bar Association. He has spoken and written extensively on international legal matters.
