For Paz Horowitz and its clients, this means, “doing well by doing it right”.

The law firm focuses on quality rather than size to build its team, and when it comes to accepting new clients, it focuses on their business ethics and corporate responsibility. Paz Horowitz was the first law firm in Ecuador to sign the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles and to join the UN Global Compact. Also, it was recommended in Ecuador for The Latin America Corporate Counsel Association in compliance and anti-corruption..

Paz Horowitz is well known for its extensive experience and knowledge in M&A transactions. Its team includes Jorge Paz Durini, Juan Carlos Pérez, Rocío Córdova, David Benalcázar, Agustín Acosta Cárdenas, María del Mar Heredia and Gabriel Santelices, providing legal advice to clients in sectors such as aviation, real estate, floriculture, distribution companies, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, energy, oil and mining, importation and distribution of automobiles.

This department is best known for its hands-on advice and participation in the transactions they are involved, because its partners (not only associates) get deep into the documents, details and document preparation. The corporate team works side by side with its tax and accounting team to find viable solutions to issues that otherwise could be deal breakers.

Dispute resolution and litigation

Paz Horowitz has represented both national and foreign companies in legal claims of different kinds, such as civil, administrative and judicial proceedings, and constitutional claims.

This year the firm decided to hire two lawyers to strength and increase its litigation and conflict resolution team. Byron Robayo, who leads the IP team, has advised to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Ecuadorian IP Office.

Their deep intellectual property knowledge, the speed, clarity, and frankness of communication are the most important tools that team wields.

Labour and employment and immigration

This practice area has changed dramatically from previous years, still helping clients to reduce litigation exposure to the minimum. Still, when litigation cannot be avoided, our trial results are sound. Although no short-term results should be taken as a guarantee, this year our litigation team has been successful in over 90% of its trial cases.

Patricia Andrade, head of the team, offers their clients a complete consulting because of her deep knowledge, ability to negotiate and to explain the risk and solutions, that places us above other law firms.

Senior associate Xavier Montesdeoca is praised by the firm’s multinational clients for his immigration law services.

Led by Eduardo Esparza, this area provides comprehensive legal and economic services on issues of competition law and international trade law, in order to facilitate the participation of its clients on global markets.
