The Mexico City Office plays a critical role in the firm's Latin America Practice working closely with colleagues in São Paulo, Miami, Houston, Madrid and New York, and as well as with those in our other offices in the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East, in connection with matters in Mexico and throughout the region. The office has over 60 lawyers providing legal services to domestic and international clients doing business in Mexico and throughout the world.
Banking and finance: Broad range of commercial financing transactions representing commercial banks, merchant banks, investment banks, placement agents, trust companies, commercial financing and leasing companies, borrowers/capital users, lessees and equity investors.
Capital markets: Represent companies and financial intermediaries in capital-raising transactions, from early-stage venture financings for start-up companies to public debt and equity offerings for seasoned issuers.
Competition and antitrust: Wide range of transactions and compliance with applicable regulations, including pre-merger notifications, antitrust and trade restraints, joint ventures, merger notifications, Mexican regulation, general antitrust counselling and investigation procedures.
Energy: Multi-disciplinary team of lawyers with an in-depth understanding of the commercial and technical aspects of the energy industry, which brings transactions, regulatory proceedings and disputes to successful completion.
Environmental: Six dedicated lawyers in Mexico focusing on environmental, health, safety, urban development, land use, natural resources and climate change fields, including the diverse aspects of applicable regulation, compliance and administrative litigation for the industrial, real estate, commercial, services and infrastructure sectors. Particular experience in complex regulatory restructuring strategies, crisis management, environmental damage liability procedures and energy projects.
Global disputes: Ten trial lawyers in Mexico including two partners who regularly appear in state and federal courts as well as before international and domestic arbitral tribunals. Experienced in civil, commercial and administrative litigation. In-depth experience in both commercial and investment arbitration having represented both, foreign investors and sovereigns.
International trade and customs litigation: In-depth knowledge of domestic trade, foreign trade and customs laws, in addition to free trade agreements and WTO and WCO regulations. regularly assist domestic and international manufacturing, retail, mining, steel and energy companies with a focus on importing and exporting procedures, and day-to-day foreign trade and customs operations.
Investigations and white-collar defence: Advise on complex compliance programmes in Latin America regarding business conduct, antitrust conduct, gift policies, trade and commercial compliance including advising on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and Mexico’s legal framework against corruption.
Mergers & acquisitions: Represent buyers, sellers, financial advisers, merchant bankers and other parties in all kinds of transactions. We participate in cross-border operations, as well as representing Latin American companies wishing to do business outside the region.
Project finance and infrastructure: Complex financings in sectors such as power generation, power transmission and distribution, telecommunications, transportation, waste management, manufacturing and general infrastructure.
Real estate: Proven experience in all kinds of cross-border real estate transactions, including acquisition, disposition, leasing and development of residential buildings, retail and industrial and commercial properties.
Tax: Focused on tax planning, tax advisory and the implications of international tax and commercial treaties on a wide range of transactions offering comprehensive tax advice on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions and foreign investments. Substantial experience in tax litigation, representing clients before the Mexican tax authorities, the Mexican Federal Tax Court and the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice.
TMT: The firm’s lawyers have led major transactions that have shaped the telecommunications market in Mexico, particularly the mobile and satellite industries. Represent TMT clients on licensing and regulatory matters, tax aspects; financing; all types of mergers and acquisitions; restructuring and bankruptcy; radio frequency swaps and leases; satellite procurement; competition issues; commercial contracts, operating contracts, passive infrastructure, as well as access and interconnection issues.
