The leak from law firm Mossack Fonseca in 2016 shone a light on the role the country’s professional services industry plays in helping the world’s rich and powerful reduce their tax bills. Since then, Panama has been on a mission to clear its name. A decision by the EU in 2017 to remove the jurisdiction from its blacklist of tax havens will have gone some way to vindicating these efforts.
