Fourth edition of Guide to Corporate Compliance out now
LACCA and its sister platform Latin Lawyer are pleased to announce that the fourth annual Guide to Corporate Compliance is now live, providing insight into the latest compliance and enforcement trends in the region.
The guide was edited by Andrew Levine, anti-corruption investigations partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP.
A digital version of the 444-page guide is available to download here for free. Hardback copies can be purchased here for £175.
“Companies throughout the region – and the world – naturally find themselves in different places in their compliance journey,” Levine remarks in the introduction. “There is understandably a learning curve when it comes to compliance programmes, and companies often are learning in real-time, as are prosecutors,” he adds.
Levine says that companies and individuals often want to do the right thing, but that an effective compliance programme requires more than an ethical mindset. “Among other essential features discussed in this book, a compliance programme requires the commitment of management at all levels and sufficient resourcing to do the job well,” he comments.
The publication, designed to help corporate decision-makers and their advisers manage compliance duties in Latin America, is divided into four parts.
The first section of the guide looks at the evolution of compliance in the region and its current climate, while the second provides detailed insight into how to build an effective compliance programme. A third section looks at some of the legislative and regulatory pressure points that advisers need to be aware of, while the guide ends with a look at some of the future trends that readers should be on the lookout for.
The guide includes several insightful essays about relevant topics affecting compliance officers and lawyers today. One article, titled Why Fresh Perspectives on Tech Solutions are Key to Evolving Data-Driven Compliance Monitoring, sees in-house compliance specialists – Gabriela Paredes, Dheeraj Thimmaiah, Jaime Muñoz and John Sardar – from beverages group Anheuser-Busch InBev discuss the growing importance of data-led compliance techniques.
Reynaldo Manzanarez Radilla, legal affairs and compliance director at Incode Technologies, outlines the recipe to a successful compliance programme in the article: The Ingredients of a Successful Compliance Department.
Other contributors include lawyers at Argentina’s Beccar Varela, Chilean outfit Carey, Mexican firm Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes SC and international outfits Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, Morrison & Foerster LLP, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and Vinson & Elkins LLP.
