Exxon gets US$1.6 billion as Venezuela condemns “unnecessary arbitration”

After seven long years, an ICSID tribunal has awarded ExxonMobil US$1.6 billion, offset by over US$900 million, in compensation for Venezuela’s expropriation of two oil projects in the Orinoco Belt; the state claims the case should never have been brought.
