Empresa Folha da Manhã, publisher of the newspaper Folha de São Paulo has formed a new distribution company, São Paulo Distribuição e Logística Ltda., with the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo. The transaction was concluded on September 26.
Pan-American Sports Network (PSN) has been embroiled in a second litigation case in the Argentine courts following a successful injunction request from DirecTV, who claim PSN attempted to force the media group to pay a different price than that originally agreed for the sports programming. The injunction was issued on October 24. PSN’s other litigation against Multicanal media group was successfully overturned in favour of PSN, as reported in LATINLAWER.com.
Agustín Navarro has been appointed by President Vincente Fox of Mexico as the newest member of the Federal Competition Commission, the national antitrust authority. He is taking over from Javier Aguilar, whose term had expired.

The taxation system governing the profits of Brazilian-controlled companies which operate abroad has been amended by the Brazilian Government. Under the former Law No. 9,249/95 (containing changes brought by Law No. 9,532/97), the profits of such companies were only taxed if effectively shared or made available to shareholders in Brazil.
