Sergio Moro, the former presiding judge of Brazil’s Operation Car Wash investigation and managing director of US-based professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal’s São Paulo office, will feature in the first panel, discussing the challenges that Brazil has faced in anti-corruption enforcement since the country’s landmark corruption investigation came to an abrupt end in 2021. Several high-profile lawyers will join Moro for that talk, along with federal prosecutor Vladimir Aras.
Following the first panel, leading lawyers and prosecutors will host a discussion looking at some of Latin America’s newest anti-corruption laws and initiatives, the specific challenges faced by certain jurisdictions amid the changes and how advisers can overcome them. In a separate session, in-house lawyers and external counsel will also reflect on some of the novel obstacles that the covid-19 pandemic presented to anti-corruption law enforcement and how practitioners surpassed them. In that talk, panellists will discuss some of the key compliance lessons to take away from the global health crisis and how those can be applied to future situations.
Regional compliance director for US science company Thermo Fisher Scientific, Liana Cunha, stars on the line up of speakers as well as the deputy chief compliance officer of global energy company AES, Colette Devine. Paul Peterson, compliance partner at US accounting group BDO features too. Several more advisers from well-established Latin American and international law firms will be participating in the conference. To see the full line-up, click here.
The conference will be held on digital media platform Zoom between 10:45 and 15:05 Brasília time (BRT).
