Roland Pettersson joined D’Empaire as a partner in 2019, focusing in the practices of financing, insolvency and restructuring and oil and gas. He holds a law degree from Andrés Bello Catholic University (2006), a diploma in finance from the University of California-Berkeley (extension), and a postgraduate degree in international business from the Metropolitan University in Caracas. Additionally, he completed the Mediating Disputes Programme at Harvard Negotiation Institute. Roland is the director of the Negotiation Programme of the CIERC at Monteavila University. He is very active academically on the topic of Venezuela’s sovereign debt restructuring, including a publication in Oxford University Press’ Capital Markets Law Journal (‘The transfer of Venezuela’s oil assets to a successor entity and fraudulent conveyance’, Vol. 14, No. 4, October 2019). He is the sole Venezuelan invited to be a member of the prestigious International Insolvency Institute and is also a member of INSOL International and the Turnaround Management Association.
