Pedro de Elizalde is an associate in the capital markets group of Shearman & Sterling’s New York office and a member of the Latin America practice group. His practice includes debt and equity capital markets transactions, international project development and finance, acquisition and leverage finance, and mezzanine and distressed debt deals. He has represented both issuers and sponsors, as well as underwriters and lenders. Previously, Pedro worked in the private sector as an associate at top tier law firms in Argentina and Brazil and in the public sector as legal counsel for the Argentine Ministry of the Treasury. His recent notable experience in the region includes representation of: JP Morgan and certain other bookrunners, in connection with an offering of US$1.1 billion notes issued by Alfa to consummate the US$1.35 billion acquisition of Colbún Transmisión; Barclays, in connection with a US$500 million financing to PMI, which, jointly with a US$1.1 billion equity contribution from PEMEX, was utilised to acquire 50 per cent of the interest in Deer Park Refining; and Goldman Sachs in a US$360 million bridge loan financing granted to Mercury HoldCo for the funding of a tender offer for all of the shares of AES Andes listed in the Santiago Stock Exchange.
