Marcos Paulo Verissimo

Marcos Paulo Veríssimo is a partner in the public law, compliance and antitrust practices of Machado Meyer.He was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1974, and graduated from the University of São Paulo Law School in 1997. He holds a Master of Laws (2002) and a Doctor of Laws (2006) degree, also from University of São Paulo, where he currently serves as a tenured professor of public law. Marcos was also a visiting scholar at Yale Law School in 2005.Marcos joined Machado Meyer in 1999 and left the firm to serve as a director and chief of staff at the Brazilian Development Bank (2009–2011) and as a commissioner at the Brazilian Antitrust Authority (2011–2013). In 2013, after leaving the federal administration, Marcos returned to the firm, and has been active in complex anti-corruption cases and internal investigations, including high-profile antitrust investigations and general compliance matters, both advising and representing Brazilian and international clients in connection with such matters before courts and regulators. An important part of Marcos’ work also includes extensive counselling on M&A and transactional matters aiming to address potential antitrust, anti-corruption and regulatory concerns, and devising creative structures and alternatives to cope with the corresponding potential risks.
