Geert Aalbers is senior partner at Control Risks and heads its Brazil office. He was appointed on a rotational basis to the group’s executive committee in 2018. Geert has 20 years of experience working in Latin America and has an in-depth understanding of the region’s business practices, cultures and risk environments. He has led on a broad range of high-profile regulatory investigations into corruption and competition matters, and has significant experience conducting internal investigations into fraud and other ethics breaches and implementing compliance programmes.

Geert holds master-level degrees in corporate law from Erasmus University Rotterdam, and in law and economics from Erasmus/Ghent/Oxford universities (joint programme). He also completed an executive MBA at Business School São Paulo. He is currently a lecturer in risk management and compliance at Insper, one of Brazil’s leading higher learning institutions.

Geert is a certified compliance and ethics professional (CCEP-I) at SCCE, and an associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). He is an advisory board member of the Council of the Americas’ anti-corruption working group and currently sits on the risk management committee of the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance.
