Turning the tide
Against the backdrop of a new hydrocarbon law, plunging oil prices and a long-running dispute over control of Argentina’s YPF, which the state seized from Spanish oil company Repsol in 2012, negotiations between Petronas, Malaysia’s state-owned energy company, and YPF to develop shale deposits was never going to be easy. But despite the challenges, a deal was struck that could have far-reaching consequences for Argentina. Vincent Manancourt talked to the lawyers involved to find out how it went.
