Opening of the Brazilian fuel sector
The 31 December marked the end of the period set by the Brazilian Petroleum Law for the country’s transition from the monopolist to the open market, regulated by the government regulatory agency. Until then, the prices of basic petroleum and natural gas by-products, as well as imports, were subject to control by ANP, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry for Mines and Energy.
