New environmental act comes into force on December 22, 2000
Pursuant to Section 47 of the Uruguayan Constitution currently in force since 1967, Act No. 17,283 declared of general and national interest the protection of the environment against any kind of depredation, destruction or contamination and the prevention of any negative environmental effects.
