Equatorial acquires Celpa through judicial restructuring
Shearman & Sterling LLP, through its New York and São Paulo offices, and Brazil’s Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados have helped Brazil's Equatorial Energia acquire 61.37 per cent of power distributor Centrais Eletricas do Para (Celpa), as part of the ailing company’s judicial restructuring process – which lawyers are describing as the largest since Brazil’s new bankruptcy and restructuring law entered in to force.
