Chile revises employment law

A new law has been approved by the Chilean Congress making significant changes to Chile's employment law that will have consequences for all companies established in the country. Nothing of this magnitude had occurred in the area of employment law since the approval of the so-called ‘Labour Plan’, a legal reform that materialised in the 1980s whereby our national legislation was adapted to the demands of flexibility inherent to an increasingly globalised and competitive economy. The Labour Plan, together with other measures to modernise the Chilean economy, was the basis for the growth of our exports and the accelerated development during the last decade.
