Brazil raises import tax on list of 100 products

Although Brazil is fond of rebuffing accusations of protectionism, safeguarding the country’s domestic industry clearly comes high up on the political agenda. The latest measure, a list of 100 products subject to import tax hikes, may fall in line with World Trade Organization rules, but opinions among the country’s trade lawyers are divided over whether it will boost or jeopardise the country’s competitiveness.
