The conference is co-chaired by Andrew Levine of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York and Diego Sierra of Von Wobeser y Sierra SC in Mexico City.
Confirmed panellists can be found here. They include in-house speakers María Luján Bianchi, chief compliance officer at Argentine energy company YPF, and Barbara Llanes from the US Department of Justice.
To kickstart the event, María de la Luz Mijangos Borja will give a keynote speech. She has been Mexico’s Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor since March 2019.
In light of President Jair Bolsonaro’s recent announcement ending the Lavo Jato investigation, the first panel will analyse the progress of anti-corruption enforcement across Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
The second panel will discuss what investigative challenges anti-corruption lawyers in Latin America face, including during the covid-19 pandemic.
In the final panel, lawyers will reflect on how to design and implement effective compliance programmes. Speakers will provide practical tips on conducting compliance risk assessments, crafting appropriate policies and testing the effectiveness of internal controls.
The event is part of four-day series that dedicates one day each to four geographical regions: Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America. The conference begins on 7 December and concludes on 10 December.
