Latin Lawyer announces beneficiaries of upcoming charity awards ceremony

Funds raised from Latin Lawyer’s 13th annual awards ceremony next week will go to Instituto Pro Bono in Brazil, Pro Bono Chile Foundation and Venezuela's ProVene.

This year’s ceremony takes place on Wednesday 10 April at the Palácio Tangará in São Paulo.

Each year, Latin Lawyer donates funds from the event to three pro bono clearing houses.

Instituto Pro Bono in Brazil has acted as a conduit for free legal support to the poorest parts of São Paulo since 2014. Its efforts put lawyers in touch with a range of matters that are not part of their daily routines, such as housing issues, young people in situations of risk and labour-related disputes.

Pro Bono Chile Foundation, established in 2000, gives socially vulnerable people access to justice and promotes the development of civil society organisations. It also has a legal education programme, and holds open talks that answer queries from migrant communities, senior citizens and children, among others.

Venezuela’s ProVene began in 2009. It was founded by a group of young lawyers and law students engaged in the promotion and protection of access to justice in Venezuela. ProVene offers free legal advice from lawyers at some of the country’s top firms as well as from legal students at high-ranking universities.

The value of the funds raised will be announced after the event. The proceeds are always split evenly.

Last year's dinner raised US$47,449 for Brazil’s Instituto Pro Bono, Colombia’s Fundación Pro Bono and the Alianza Pro Bono in Peru.

At the ceremony, Latin Lawyer presents awards to lawyers who have worked on winning deals and cases across 10 categories: mergers and acquisitions (public and private); project finance (energy and infrastructure); corporate finance (capital markets and banking and finance); disputes; restructuring; private equity; and regulatory.

We also hand out a series of awards recognising the significant achievements of individual lawyers in the region – Law Firm Leader of the Year, Specialist Law Firm Leader of the Year, International Lawyer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Awards and Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. There are also awards for Pro Bono Project of the Year and Diversity Initiative of the Year.

Tickets are available for purchase here.
