European utility companies fight over Brazil’s Eletropaulo

Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados; Rosman, Penalva, Souza Leão, Franco, Vale Advogados and Yazbek Advogados in São Paulo have helped Italian utilities company Enel buy a 74% stake in Brazil’s largest power distributor Eletropaulo for 5.6 billion reais (US$1.4 billion), but the deal is now ensnared in dispute proceedings after a hard-fought bid war ended in disagreement.

Eletropaulo relied on BMA - Barbosa, Müssnich, Aragão and Lefosse Advogados in São Paulo. Cescon Barrieu was lead counsel to Enel. The deal closed on 4 June.
