Michell specialises in structured and project finance, capital markets, restructuring and M&A. Michell has more than 35 years’ experience as an attorney. He advises clients on complex structured finance and securitisations. He has been involved in the development of the APP regime. He has also spearheaded ground breaking financial structures in the real estate sector, including the largest real estate financing ever in Mexico, the creation of the first Mexican land bank and the IPO of two existing FIBRAS in Mexico. He has also contributed to the development of Fibra E.
He has represented bank syndicates in some of the largest debt restructurings in Mexico and has particular expertise in US-Mexico cross-border cases. He advised the US Department of the Treasury on the US$20 billion emergency financial package provided to the Mexican government.
Michell has been involved in high-level trade negotiations. He advised the US Commerce Department in the negotiation of the investment and financial services chapters of NAFTA and served as Mexico delegate in an UNCITRAL session on international bills of exchange and promissory notes.
He received his LLM in comparative law from Georgetown University, having graduated as an attorney (summa cum laude) from Universidad Iberoamericana.
