Main international areas of practice
Banking, finance law and capital markets: Consortium provides advice to the most prestigious banks and financial institutions on legal matters throughout the region. The firm has solid experience in structuring complex local or international financial transactions, project finance, asset securitisation, factoring, leasing and derivatives, among others. Consortium – El Salvador advised Deutsche Bank and Barclays in the issuance of Senior Guaranteed Notes for US$310 million by the Salvadoran subsidiaries of AES. Additionally, the firm advised the Fondo de Conservación Vial (FOVIAL) in the structuring of a securitisation for US$100 million under the Law of Securitization of Assets, this operation represents the largest securitisation that has occurred in El Salvador up to this date.
Corporate, commercial and M&A: Consortium handles incorporations of companies, board resolutions, general shareholders’ meetings, drafting of contracts, international trade, mergers and acquisitions, distribution, licensing and agency agreements, commercial transactions and contracts, as well as general corporate matters. Consortium – El Salvador acted as counsel to Cable and Wireless Panama SA in the acquisition of Sonitel Group in Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Peru for US$41.3 million.
Intellectual property: The intellectual property department for Consortium Centro America Abogados is best known for handling matters such as patents and trademarks, sanitary and pharmaceutical registrations, copyright, administrative options and litigation. Consortium offices handled the registration of 224 Geographical Indications of the European Union.
