Juan Carlos Serra


Juan Carlos Serra has been with Basham, Ringe y Correa, SC since 1996. He is the head of the energy, mining and infrastructure practice groups. Juan Carlos worked in the private sector lending arm of the Interamerican Development Bank, called the Interamerican Investment Corporation.

Juan Carlos is a graduate from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and has a master’s degree from Georgetown University (Fullbright Scholarship). He also has a postgraduate degree in corporate and economic law from the Panamerican University (and a diploma degree in energy law from the Iberoamerican University).

He is recognised by the Latin American Energy and Infrastructure Guide as a ‘leading lawyer’, ranked by Chambers Latin America as a leading lawyer in corporate, mergers and acquisitions and energy & natural resources practices, and recognised as Latin America’s leading lawyer in IFLR1000 Energy and Infrastructure. He was named ‘world’s leading lawyer’ by Who’s Who of Mining Lawyers, as well as Who’s Who of Energy Lawyers.

His specific experience includes joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, reorganisations, investments, acquisitions and solid experience participating in national and international public bidding, as well as extensive advice in energy and mining issues.

He is an active member of the Mexican Legal Bar, Institute of Energy Law, Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, as well as The International Bar Association.
