Sergio J Galvis is a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP where he heads the firm’s Latin America Group and is a member of S&C’s Management Committee. With over 30 years of practice advising on matters across the world, Mr Galvis was recognised as Latin Lawyer’s 2015 International Lawyer of the Year. Mr Galvis has led teams on some of the most precedent-setting transactions completed in Latin America, ranging from cross-border private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, privatisations, initial public offerings, sovereign financings, restructurings and innovative project financings (especially in the oil and gas, mining and infrastructure areas).
Mr Galvis writes frequently on international legal and financial matters including most recently “Solving the Pari Passu Puzzle: The Market Still Knows Best,” published by Capital Markets Law Journal (a publication of Oxford Press), and “Steps to Succession: Planning Techniques for Latin American Family Businesses,” published by STEP Journal, which he co-authored with Melissa Sawyer. Mr Galvis is a three-time recipient of the Burton Award for Legal Achievement including for his article on the issues, challenges and requirements Latin American companies face in international M&A. Mr Galvis was born in Colombia and is fluent in Spanish.
